OK, so you have problems with your harddisk
.
Here are a list of problems you might have with your harddisk, along with
solutions or suggestions. If your problem is not listed below, just mail
me and I might just know the answer to it.
Here we go :
-
P: The BIOS doesn't recognize your
harddisk at Auto detection.
-
S: Check if the cables are plugged
in...
-
S: You might have a non standard
harddisk, so you will have to specify the type of your harrdisk, or all
the caracteristics of it (number of heads, cylinders, heads). You can get
this information from the manufacturer's site.
-
P: Bad sectors start to appear an
your harddisk.
-
S: Well, this is a serious problem.
Usually, when you get these, you can say goodbye to your harddisk, and
start looking for another one. But you might be lucky...If you have a Seagate
harddisk,
do the following : - remove the cover of your harddisk
- search for a quartz crystal
(a frequency generator)
- blow the dust off it (do not
touch it). If it has dust on it, it changes the frequency it produces,
so your harddisk doesn't work properly.
-
S: Try reformating it (if necessary,
low-format it). Then check the surface for errors. If you are lucky, the
bad-sectors will disappear...
